Before I get to the poll, I want to give you some background information to explain why I’m asking this question.
I just had a debate on Facebook with a couple of guys about the Mets. The debate started with a pessimistic Mets fan named Jesse posting a sarcastic status update:
“[The Mets] lost to the astros…..yea we are a good team”
Jesse also told me:
“Be a realistic fan for one second, and you will realize the mets are a bad team.”
I said:
[The Mets are] 13-10 in april playing against lots of division rivals. Technically they are on pace for 91.5 wins. I don’t understand how you call yourself a fan and truly enjoy watching games when you just talk [crap] all the time. It’s just annoying.
Another Mets fan on Facebook named Ravi added:
The Mets are also just an underrated team in the sense that a lot of our hitters have great potential but are just not household names. Arguably the only household name we have is Wright. But fact of the matter is guys like Murphy are capable of being .300 hitters and both Duda and Ike are capable of 25 + HRs. And yeah bullpen questions are there, Francisco is not a great closer but still, this team has a good chance of being .500 or above
The conversation continued. I wrote that I didn’t think 81-85 wins this season would be unrealistic. Jesse said this:
I feel it is more realistic to hope for 70-75 personally.
Basically Jesse thinks the Mets will win 57 to 62 games the rest of the season and lose 77 to 82. I think it’s HIGHLY unlikely the Mets go around 59-80 the rest of the season.
But I’ll let you guys have the final say:

look, i hope i am dead wrong, but seeing their roster and looking at the division, i just don’t see more than that, and stop cutting and pasting parts of the convo and making it seem like i know nothing about baseball

and actually by my count, the mets would end up 75-87
