Miguel Batista pitched in 35 games last season, nine for the Mets and 26 with the Cardinals.
Anthony Koka of MetsOnline said the following about the possibility of re-signing Batista and signing players like him back in December:
“Obviously Miguel Batista is well beyond his prime, but he too is a veteran. I know I sound repetitive, but the Mets aren’t going to be able to sign Prince Fielder, Albert Pujols, or any other “big time free agents”. So the best plan is to surround David Wright, Johan Santana, Ike Davis, and Jason Bay (hopefully Bay can start to preform) with a bunch of role players who know how to win.”
Also, let’s not forget that Miguel Batista threw a shutout on the final day of the season at the age of 40.
