The New York Mets (31-23) defeated the St. Louis Cardinals (27-27) by the score of 6-1 tonight at Citi Field. The Mets have taken the series by winning the first three games of four, but seek the four-game sweep tomorrow against the defending champions.

Jon Niese, like Santana and Dickey, pitched outstanding. Niese struck out 10 batters in six shutout innings and received his 4th win of the season.
The Mets got on the board first tonight in the bottom half of the first inning when Lucas Duda ripped a one-out single to right field.
Kirk Nieuwenhuis had three hits batting leadoff tonight, including a two-run homer, which gave the Mets a 3-0 lead in the 4th inning, and a RBI single in the 6th.
Following Kirk Nieuwenhuis’ RBI single in the 6th was a two-run triple by Andres Torres. Torres went 3-4 tonight, with just a homerun shy of the cycle. He also received an outfield assist, after throwing out a runner at home.
Tonight’s win puts the Mets in a three-way tie for the first place spot in the NL East!!! Keep on BELIEVING!!!
Tomorrow: Dillon Gee (4-3, 4.69 ERA) will take on RHP Kyle Lohse (5-1, 3.36 ERA) at Citi Field. First pitch will be at 1:10 PM EDT.
