The New York Mets were defeated by the Chicago Cubs tonight by the score of 6-1. The Mets looked atrocious tonight, they committed their fourth 3-error game of the season, allowing four unearned runs in the 7th inning.
Tonight’s Winning Pitcher: Travis Wood (2-3, 3.54) was tonights winning pitcher for the Cubs. Wood Pitched 7 innings and allowed zero earned runs. He allowed only 5 hits while striking out 6.
Tonight’s Losing Pitcher: Johan Santana was tonights losing pitcher. Santana pitched 6 innings and allowed 2 earned runs. Santana pitched very well. He kept the Mets in the game, but tonight the Mets just couldn’t score for him.
In the 9th inning Ike Davis hit his ninth home run of the season. It really looks like Ike is coming around, and even though he is still getting out more than he’d like to, he is hitting the ball hard and consistently making solid contact.
The Mets just didn’t play well tonight. It seems like everything Terry Collins said he was worried about happening, happened. The Mets had a very significant drop off between level of play. They were playing hard nosed baseball against the Yankees, and tonight looked like a minor league squad out there. Making a lot of errors, mental mistakes, and not hitting the ball.
